Exhibiting at annual events such as the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival makes us realise the importance of outside space.

Not only is a garden beautiful to look at but it fulfils a variety of uses – a space to relax, entertain, enjoy a meal, play games, have family time, grow vegetables or read a book – the list goes on.

However, being outdoors can also have tremendous health benefits helping concentration, stress levels and creativity.  Research shows that spending time outdoors can reduce heart rate, blood pressure, lower stress hormones and ease muscle tension.

One great way to enjoy your outside space is to eat outside – or dine alfresco. It’s a great way to boost your mood and get some extra vitamin D when sitting out in the sunshine, which is essential for the immune system.

Eating outside with family or friends can also have a positive impact on your cortisol levels, also known as the ‘stress hormone’, and boost immunity and wellbeing.

However, Britain being Britain, the chances of the sun shining after you say the words barbecue can be slim, which is when a summerhouse comes into its own.

Lay your table to create the right mood – celebration, romantic, family fun – and then enjoy your food no matter what the weather.

It also means you can entertain day or night – using candles and fairy lights to add a romantic glow to your garden.

Now it’s just time to plan the menu!
