With over 40 years’ of experience, Scotts of Thrapston has an in-depth knowledge of not only roof truss design and manufacture but also the workings of a building site.

We provide a highly engineered product to controlled quality standards and use the latest software to design roof structures and trusses to meet the exacting needs of a project and its specifications.

Our on-time delivery service helps Site Managers ensure that their project is completed to schedule. We have our own dedicated transport team which allows us to co-ordinate deliveries to suit your schedule. Once delivered, the responsibility of safely unloading, storing and installing roof trusses is with the Contractor on-site. Further guidance is available regarding the safe storage and handling of trusses prior to erection. The contractor is responsible for completing a site risk assessment and developing a safety method statement before any work commences onsite.

The installation of timber roof trusses should only be carried out by suitably experienced and qualified personnel – those with a Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry.

Furthermore, safe working practices need to be in place, for example the correct use of PPE, signing off scaffolding and the use of a safe working platform, together with suitable access to the roof, such as a stair tower.

Around the perimeter of the roof, the safe working platform should have edge protection boarded scaffold with guard rails. Additionally, detailed measures should be put in place to prevent or mitigate the distance of a fall. This can be done by providing a working platform or ‘crash deck’ immediately beneath the underside of the trusses.

The Work at Height Regulations requires weather conditions to be considered when planning any work at height.

As a leading member of the Trussed Rafter Association (TRA), we can provide our customers with copies of documents outlining the safe working practices for installing roof trusses.

Scotts adheres to the most stringent principles of best practice and quality assurance. Using ISO 9001 and the TRA Code of Practice, Scotts can offer every customer the highest levels of manufacturing excellence and customer service.
