Winter can be a dull and depressing time, as the weather continues to batter us and the temperature plummets ever colder, so what better time to let your summerhouse help you embrace the idea of hygge?
This Danish lifestyle concept encompasses feelings of cosy contentment, well-being and peace. It encourages an appreciation of the simple things in life and enjoying your winter garden certainly ticks the box for relaxation.
Hygge embraces everything that feels soft and cosy, so blankets, throws, pillows and rugs are important to create a warm space that is perfect for some ‘me-time’ or when you are enjoying the company of family and friends.
With that in mind, we are launching a competition on Facebook on Monday, December 9, to win a Nordic-style fleece throw, a Christmas-design cushion cover and a festive mug with hot chocolate – perfect prizes for you to create your own cosy cocoon in which to listen to music or enjoy a good book.
Lighting is important too, whether you use lamps or fairy lights to create a twinkling wonderland, while hurricane lanterns placed outside your summerhouse will create a lovely welcoming glow.
Hygge can have some wonderful benefits, such as easing depression and anxiety, encouraging a greater sense of mindfulness and boosting feelings of self-worth and optimism.
Try to enjoy some hygge in your garden – after all, researchers continually find the Danes to be some of the happiest people in the world!
