A mental health initiative, supported by Scotts of Thrapston, is gathering pace as more Young Farmers’ Clubs help promote wellbeing among young people in rural communities.
We have partnered with Northamptonshire Community Foundation (NCF), the leading independent grant-making charity in the county, to provide £5,000 of funding support to Northampton Town and County Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (Northants YFC).
The funding allows Northants YFC, through its Wellbeing Committee, to raise awareness of the support it offers young farmers county-wide on issues surrounding mental health, suicide awareness and self-harm.
Northants YFC is working closely with the Farming Community Network (FCN), and through its Reaching Out initiative is raising awareness of the FCN confidential helpline.
Young Farmers’ Clubs are supporting the campaign by organising inclusive events which are open to all.
Members of two clubs, Oundle YFC and Thrapston YFC (pictured above), took part in the #IWill4Nature tree planting campaign promoted by the Woodland Trust and NFYFC, and planted over 100 trees at Brigstock and Pytchley. This activity was linked to the Reaching Out project to demonstrate the benefits that outdoor physical activity, as part of a team, can have on mental wellbeing.
Thrapston YFC is organising a Tractor Run on February 23**, Kelmarsh YFC will be holding a Fitness Night in the near future, while Oundle YFC is planning a Clay Shoot on June 21st. The Wellbeing Committee is also planning a Wellbeing Walk, which will be open to all, and a country park litter pick.
As a company, we are keen to support Northants YFC and the wider communication that it’s ok not to be ok within rural communities. This Reaching Out programme is helping to deliver this message and supports positive mental wellbeing through a variety of activities.
It is also providing vital information about mental health and rural isolation issues and showing people where to go for support.
We are proud to be involved in this initiative and to see our funding benefit the local farming and rural communities.
