Scotts says a fond farewell to Ken Forster after 37 years

We’re always proud when colleagues choose to spend a significant part of their working lives with Scotts, and Ken is a great example of this.
Ken joined Scotts back in 1989, employed by Douglas Scott in our door division and working under foreman John Wilson, who is still part of the Scotts team today.

Over more than three and a half decades, Ken became a hugely valued member of the business. He took on increasing responsibility over the years, before spending the latter part of his career as Factory Manager, overseeing the manufacture of both our equestrian timber buildings and summerhouses.

Ken’s contribution went far beyond his job title. Always willing to share his knowledge and experience, he played an important part in supporting and mentoring many of the apprentices and younger members of the team who came through the factory over the years.
During that time, Ken saw plenty of change. He worked alongside three generations of the Scott family, from Douglas Scott, through David Scott and, most recently, James Scott as Managing Director – something that means a great deal to us as a family business.

James said: “Ken has been part of Scotts for as long as I can remember, and we’re incredibly grateful for the commitment and loyalty he has shown to the business over so many years.
“As a family business, it means a lot when people choose to spend such a large part of their working lives with us. Ken has worked alongside three generations of our family and has played an important part in Scotts throughout that time. We’ll certainly miss having him around, but his retirement is very well deserved.”

Those who worked alongside Ken will know that he was usually the first through the doors in the morning and was always ready for a chat about his beloved Newcastle United!

Ken retired last week, and we hope he thoroughly enjoys a well-earned change of pace and spending more time with his family and grandchildren. With two holidays already booked, it sounds as though retirement is off to a good start!
Thank you, Ken, for more than 37 years of hard work, loyalty and commitment to Scotts. You’ve been a big part of the business and will certainly be missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside you.

We wish you a very happy and well-deserved retirement.
